Are you thinking that you want to take a step further and get your kid their first quad? Watch your child's eyes pop when he or she experiences 4 wheel ride for the first time! Off-road driving is confidence-building, motor skills strengthening, and a great opportunity for families to get away from the screen to go outside and explore together.

But for the inexperienced consumer, the first time they try it at Dallas Power Sport might be a little daunting. What is the wattage of the engine? What are the Safety Controls you need? What are some best practices to ensure young riders are made safe when they are learning?

Take a deep breath! From 110cc youth ATV selection to correct speed limiters and protective equipment, this easy-to-understand guide explains it all.

Sizing, Engine Fit, & Essential Safety Controls

Proper Fit of Engine and Frame Size

The WORST thing parents can do is to purchase a machine that their child can "outgrow." Using machines that are too heavy or too quick can pose safety risks and can be frustrating for young children to learn to ride.

  • For Ages 6 to 11 (Beginner Level): Check out an enclosed 110cc youth ATV or an 110cc ATV designed to be small-sized. They include automatic transmissions, shorter seat heights, and st lightweight frames that children are able to easily drive.

  • Ages 12+ (Intermediate Level): If your rider has grown out of small starter quads or wants to transition to 2 wheels, then he or she will benefit from the increased frame size and increased power to trail that a 125cc dirt bike or a mid-size 125cc/150cc quad has to offer.

Parental Safety Features & Controls

If a car lacks safety features, it cannot possibly meet these minimum requirements. Even a car with safety features may fail to meet the minimum requirements.

At Dallas Power Sport, you'll find the features you want for your child that are beginner-friendly and ensure parents remain in full control:

  • Adjustable Speed Limiters: Parents can control the max speed using a throttle lever device with handlebar screw-on adjustment, all the way down to a safe, slow crawl (as low as 5-10 mph) while they work with the steering and braking.

  • Remote Wireless Engine Kill Switches: Useful remote key fob. Cortas are shut off by the parent within 100+ feet. from them.

  • Safety Tether Leashes: A cord that attaches to the rider's wrist or waist, and which will automatically shut off if the child ever climbs or slips off the seat.

Rider Gear Checklist & Terrain Applications

Take This Checklist to the Sport of Riding

But the other half of the safety factor comes with using a proper machine. Be sure your child is ready down to the last Popsicle stick before hitting the start button:

  • DOT-Approved Helmet: Non-negotiable! Always ensure that children are wearing a suitable helmet when riding.

  • Goggles & Gloves: Safeguard the young eyes from branches, dirt, and flying roost, and keep the handlebars in hand.

  • Over-the-Ankle Boots & Protective Apparel: Boots higher than the ankle protect the ankles on footrests, and heavy pants and long-sleeve cover skin from scratches & engine heat.

Terrain Usage: Street vs. Trail

Youth quads come with the rider's modification to ride dirt trails and on private property only, while many parents ask, "What about multi-purpose quads for the whole family?"

For the occasional light neighborhood job, making numerous runs to campus, or even a day-to-day commute to and from work, a 150cc gas moped and moped scooters 50cc system is an extremely economical way to accomplish it. A complete street-legal moped will enable moped efficiency of 70 to 100+ MPG and is currently among the lowest-cost mopeds available.
