When you are out on the trail, you are likely to come across big obstacles. Learning the tricks to tackle hills is a significant aspect of riding ATVs out in the wilderness. With practice, you will eventually be able to handle big hills without slowing down.

Here are some tips we have put together to help you navigate those hilly roads when you are riding the Taotao 125CC ATV in Dallas.

Momentum

When you drive your ATV on hilly terrains, try getting your speed up. It is essential to have enough momentum to take you all the way to the top of the hill.

Shift

With ATVs, you need to be smooth with the clutch and shift when required. If you do not shift correctly at the right time, it could slow down your speed and momentum, making it hard for you to make it to the top. If you shift too early, you will not have the power needed to continue the climb. It becomes more important when you drive in deeper soil, which is already working against you as it is.

Throttle

Make sure that you pay attention to your throttle control with your ATV. You have to be nice and smooth with the throttle like you did with the clutch. Give your ATV gas to get up the hill, but a burst of throttle will cause the tires to slip, and you will not make it to the top. If there is not enough throttle, it will bog you down.

Body Position

This is a significant one to get good at. If you do not position yourself correctly on the ATV, you could end up tipping over or falling off your quad.

You need to lean forward on your quad in a standing position. The upper part of your even needs to be over the handlebars. Standing and leaning forward will give you forward momentum. Most importantly, it will help keep your front tires on the ground. It is one of the most important things you get a feel for the more you do it.

Keep Your Head up

A lot of quad riders will look at the ground in front of their quad when they first try to climb a hill. While it feels natural, try not to do this. If you already know the road, then great. However, if you are not looking ahead, you could miss other obstacles on the hill like roots, ruts, or rocks. You do not want to be taken by surprise; it could ruin your hill climb, putting you in danger. Make sure that you look up the hill you are heading, and be ready to make changes to your course if you need to.
